Vision Zero 2019 : A New Concept in Occupational Safety and Health

What is Vision Zero?

 

It is a strategic approach for preventing workplace accidents and promoting health and wellbeing of employees and employers. It promotes a culture of prevention and commitment to safety, health and wellbeing by all people at the workplace.

Vision Zero is introduced by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and belief that accidents and diseases have causes and can be prevented. Vision Zero concept is flexible and can be customized to the specific safety, health or well-being priorities for prevention based on the current business needs. Vision Zero is useful to any workplace, enterprise or industry in all regions of the world.

 

Malaysia’s Vision Zero strategy was officially launched on 10th of July 2019 in Putrajaya, Malaysia by the Minister of Human Resources, Mr. M. Kula Segaran. The launch was organized by the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) of Malaysia and participated by approximately 1000+ participants include OSH professionals, employers and academicians.

 

Vision Zero Conference 2019

 

Two-day Vision Zero Conference has been organized to discuss the three keystones of Vision Zero which are notably safety, health and well-being in the workplace as well as to encourage the adoption of the Vision Zero Initiative. The objectives of the conference were:

 

  • To run a national strategy, platform and resources in support of Vision Zero

  • To encourage synergies among prevention of health and safety organizations and for companies of any scale through a cooperative campaign

  • To support businesses in the development of a workplace prevention culture based on Vision Zero

  • To promote the community in accepting the concept of Vision Zero in ensuring safety, health and well-being in all aspects of life.

 

 

A Vision Zero Secretariat is established to conduct and deliver resources for Vision Zero partners, companies or any interested parties in Malaysia. The Secretariat will support the implementation of the national Vision Zero programs in Malaysia.

 

The webpage Vision Zero PERKESO ( https://visionzero.perkeso.gov.my ) is a platform to:

 

  • spread the concept of VISION ZERO by providing customizable tools

  • update information rapidly at the national level

  • highlight good business practices through targeted communication campaigns
